- How many times may I create a Google Earth file?
The number of Google Earth files you can create is unlimited.
- Does my data remain confidential? Can other people see my data?
Your Google Earth file is located on your computer. If you do not share your file with others, nobody else can see your file, even when viewing it with Google Earth.
- After its creation, the Google Earth file is not automatically opened in Google Earth.
It is possible that the Google Earth file is not opened automatically. In this case, open your file manually with a double click in the windows explorer, or by the Google Earth menu (File -> Open).
- Can I view my Google Earth files without an internet connection?
Yes, Google Earth files can be viewed without an internet connection. However, not having access to the Google Earth servers, certain information will not be updated while navigating (satellite imagery, road, etc.), with exception of the geographical areas you visited when you were still online. Neither Google Earth Searches nor Directions function without an internet connection.
- How can I share my maps with my colleagues?
To share or disseminate your maps created by neoMapper, you can send your Google Earth files by email, publish them on an intranet or use Google Earth functions such as printing or sending a screen capture by email.
- I cannot access Map / Directions in Google Maps. Why?
Either you have no access to the internet, either Google Maps cannot identify and geolocate the address (as it is incomplete, incorrect or unknown by Google Maps).
- What is a geolocating report?
The geolocating report is a list of addresses that could not be identified by the software. A test is carried out to validate the coherence between the name of the city and the zip code. The address is rejected if this coherence is not valid. In most cases, the name of the city or the zip code is not spelled correctly in your database which can be easily corrected. Carry out the necessary corrections and recreate your Google Earth file again.
- I corrected my addresses, but the geolocating report still contains rejections.
Make sure that your addresses do not contain the used field separator character (e.g. TAB) or Newline character.
- What is the origin of the data used by neoMapper?
nneoMapper includes different types of data whose source depends on its nature:
- Socio-economic data. Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis
- Geographic data. Source: National Atlas of the United States / USGS.
- Does neoMapper remain compatible with new versions of Google Earth?
Yes. Whenever required, free updates of neoMapper are available on our download page.
- Where can I download Google Earth?
Click here to download the latest version of Google Earth.
- Is Google Earth free?
Yes, Google Earth is completely free.
- Do I need the Pro version of Google Earth?
No, the Pro version (charged) of Google Earth is not required for use with neoMapper.
- Which version of Google Earth should I use?
It is strongly recommended to use the latest version (v5) of Google Earth.
- When closing Google Earth, should I save my data in the “My Places” folder?
No, we recommend saving as little as possible data in the “My Places” folder, to keep navigating fluid and to simplify the management of Google Earth files.
- How can I keep my maps in Google Earth?
When you open your file for the first time, it is stored in the “Temporary Places” folder. To save it in Google Earth, drag the file into the “My Places” folder (just above). However, we recommend saving as little data as possible in the “My Places” folder, to keep navigating fluid and to simplify the management of Google Earth files.
- Google Maps does not show a detailed map of my contact.
Google Maps is not always able to find the detailed map when clicking on “Map / Directions” in the contact balloon. This might happen when your address does not have a classic structure (road, city, zip code). In that case, create your address in the Google Maps interface.
- How can I open the detailed maps of Google Maps in an external web browser?
When clicking on “Map / Directions” in the contact balloon, a web browser is opened within the Google Earth interface. It is possible to display Google Maps in an external web browser by clicking on the icons in the right top corner. If you always wish to view Google Maps directions in an external web browser, select the option “Show web results in an external browser” (menu Tools -> Options -> General tab).
- Why are certain areas in Google Earth blurred?
Google Earth displays satellite images and aerial photography with various resolutions (image definition). Sometimes images are of lesser quality which gives a hazy impression. However Google Earth images are very frequently updated and improved, all around the globe.
- I have display problems with Google Earth. What can I do?
If you encounter display problems, try another Graphics Mode. The default graphics mode is OpenGL. To change it, open the Options window in Google Earth (menu Tools -> Options). Go to the 3D View tab and select DirectX. If your problems remain, you might select the “Use safe mode” option.
However, for neoMapper files, OpenGL is recommended for best rendering.
